Where it came from
Ultimate X-Men #17 was published in 2002 as part of Marvel Comics' Ultimate line, an initiative designed to modernize and reboot the company's classic superhero lineup for a new generation of readers. This specific issue served as the conclusion to the 'World Tour' story arc, which explored the global political tensions surrounding mutant existence within the revamped Ultimate universe.
The issue was written by Mark Millar, the primary architect of the series, and features artwork by Adam Kubert. Kubert’s dynamic, cinematic style was central to the aesthetic of the early Ultimate run, aiming to distance the characters from their Silver Age roots and ground them in a more visceral, contemporary narrative tone. The series received significant attention during this period for its darker themes and accessible entry point for new readers.
