Where it came from
Ultimate X-Men #22, released in 2002, serves as the conclusion to the 'World Tour' story arc within the Marvel Ultimate Universe. This imprint was established by Marvel Comics at the turn of the millennium to modernize and streamline the histories of their flagship characters for a new generation of readers, unencumbered by decades of complex continuity.
The issue features a script by Mark Millar and pencils by Adam Kubert. Kubert’s dynamic, cinematic art style was instrumental in defining the visual language of the Ultimate line, emphasizing a gritty, realistic aesthetic that contrasted with the more stylized traditions of the core Marvel titles. The issue was generally received as a pivotal moment for the series, cementing the tense, militaristic dynamic between the X-Men and the government-backed Sentinels.
