Uma Musume: Pretty Derby - Uma Musumeshi #1

Uma Musumeshi, or Uma Musume Food, is a culinary tie-in series derived from the multimedia franchise Uma Musume: Pretty Derby, which reimagines historical thoroughbred racehorses as anthropomorphic girls. The first issue was released to capitalize on the immense popularity of the franchise, focusing on the comfort foods and recipes that sustain the characters in their training lives. By grounding the fantastical world of horse-girl racing in domestic, relatable meal preparation, the publication serves as both a lifestyle companion and a piece of extended character lore.

The design aesthetic follows the vibrant, energetic visual language established by Cygames for the series, featuring bright color palettes and detailed illustrations of the characters enjoying their meals. It was produced as a lighthearted exploration of the characters' personalities through their dietary preferences, aiming to deepen the audience's emotional connection to the cast. Critics and fans generally received the release as a charming, niche collectible that successfully translates the high-stakes world of the racetrack into the casual setting of the kitchen.
