Uncanny X-Men #32

Uncanny X-Men #32, published in May 1967, arrived during the original run of the series created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. At this stage in the title's history, the X-Men were struggling to find a consistent audience, and the book often featured experimental narratives and shifting artistic contributions. This issue was written by Roy Thomas and featured pencils by Werner Roth, working under the pseudonym Jay Gavin, who had taken over the series to provide a more traditional house style following Kirby's departure from interior art duties.

The story, titled 'Beware the Sirens!', follows the team as they encounter a group of humanoid aliens known as the Mimics. The narrative reflects the mid-sixties Marvel aesthetic, blending science fiction tropes with the interpersonal melodrama that Lee and Thomas sought to instill in their young mutants. While the issue is considered a standard example of the Silver Age X-Men period, it remains a notable piece of X-Men history for its role in maintaining the continuity of the series before the title famously went into reprint status shortly thereafter.
