Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction #6

Published in 1975 by Curtis Magazines, a division of Marvel Comics, Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction was a premium-format black-and-white magazine intended to capture the more sophisticated, literary side of the genre. Issue number 6 arrived during a period when the industry was eager to emulate the success of titles like Heavy Metal, focusing on high-quality illustrations and adaptations of classic science fiction literature to differentiate itself from the standard superhero fare of the era.

The design and artistic direction were overseen by a team dedicated to elevating the medium, featuring contributions from notable illustrators and writers such as Richard Corben and Harlan Ellison. The issue was part of a brief but critically regarded experiment in magazine-style comics, aiming to reach an adult audience. While the publication eventually ceased, it is remembered today for its attempt to blend avant-garde art with established science fiction narratives, marking a significant moment in mid-1970s experimental publishing.
