Venom #17

Venom #17, published by Marvel Comics in 2019, is part of the Donny Cates-penned run that redefined the character's mythology. Emerging from the Absolute Carnage event, this issue serves as a critical bridge in the narrative arc, exploring Eddie Brock's complicated relationship with the symbiote and his son, Dylan. The story leans heavily into the cosmic horror and psychological depth that characterized Cates' tenure, pushing the boundaries of the character's traditional anti-hero archetype.

The cover art and interior illustrations reflect a transition in the series' visual tone, emphasizing the visceral, gritty aesthetic associated with the modern symbiote era. Ryan Stegman, the primary artist for this volume, established a distinct, kinetic style that became synonymous with this iteration of Venom. The series was met with widespread critical acclaim for its ambitious world-building, which successfully elevated a localized street-level hero into a central player within the broader Marvel cosmic landscape.
