Void Rivals, published by Image Comics in collaboration with Skybound Entertainment, was launched in 2023 as the inaugural title of the Energon Universe. This shared continuity project, spearheaded by writer Robert Kirkman and artist Lorenzo De Felici, was designed to revitalize the Hasbro properties of Transformers and G.I. Joe by weaving them into a brand-new, original science fiction narrative centered on the long-standing conflict between the Agorrian and Zertonian factions.

The creative team utilized the series to establish a gritty, expansive space opera aesthetic that departs from traditional superhero tropes. Lorenzo De Felici’s visual style focuses on dynamic, high-contrast character designs and alien landscapes intended to evoke a sense of isolation and wonder. Since its debut, the series has been well received for its ability to balance deep world-building with the sudden, seismic crossovers that anchor the broader Energon Universe.
