Where it came from
The Wallace & Gromit Dailies series originated from the immense popularity of Aardman Animations' claymation icons, created by Nick Park. These comic strips were produced to extend the adventures of the duo into print, capturing the signature dry wit and visual charm of the films. The strips were published in various international newspapers, serving as a condensed format for the slapstick and silent comedy that defined the characters' cinematic presence.
The design of the Dailies focused on translating the intricate, tactile nature of stop-motion puppets into two-dimensional pen-and-ink illustrations. Artists associated with the Titan Comics runs aimed to maintain the eccentric personality of Wallace and the expressive, wordless communication of his canine companion, Gromit. These issues were received as charming collector pieces for fans of the franchise, successfully bridging the gap between animation and traditional newspaper humor.
