Where it came from
Wally the Wizard #2 was released during the mid-1980s as part of a short-lived independent fantasy comic book series. During this period, small publishers frequently sought to capture the growing interest in sword-and-sorcery tropes by introducing lighthearted, serialized adventures that blended humor with traditional magic-themed world-building.
The series is noted for its whimsical, illustrative style which prioritized expressive character work over the gritty realism that began to dominate the broader comic market at the time. While the series ultimately struggled to gain a lasting foothold against industry giants, it remains a charming artifact of the era's independent publishing boom, representing a sincere attempt to create accessible, family-friendly fantasy storytelling.
