Walt Disney Huey, Dewey and Louie Junior Woodchucks #48

The Junior Woodchucks comic series, featuring Donald Duck's nephews, emerged from the expansion of the Disney character universe in the mid-1960s. Published by Western Publishing under their Gold Key imprint, these comics sought to capitalize on the popularity of the Scouting-inspired paramilitary organization first introduced by Carl Barks. The series focused on themes of outdoor survival, environmental stewardship, and youthful camaraderie, providing a distinct narrative niche separate from the main Donald Duck adventures.

Issue number 48, released in the late 1970s, reflects the transition in the series toward more episodic, lighthearted storytelling. The design and illustration work followed the rigorous Disney studio style guides, ensuring consistency in character anatomy and expression despite the varying pool of freelance writers and artists who contributed to the long-running title. Like many issues in this run, it remains a beloved example of the educational-adjacent entertainment that defined the late Silver Age of Disney comics.
