War of the Gods #1

War of the Gods #1 was published in 1991 as the premiere issue of a major DC Comics crossover event written and illustrated by George Pérez. The series was designed to celebrate Wonder Woman’s 50th anniversary, positioning the character as the central figure in a sprawling conflict involving various pantheons of mythology and the DC Universe's established superhero community.

Pérez, who was instrumental in defining the modern iteration of Wonder Woman throughout the 1980s, intended the project to be a grand, operatic spectacle that reflected his deep appreciation for classic storytelling and detailed panel composition. While the series was highly anticipated by fans of the era for its ambitious scope and Pérez’s signature artistic style, it was met with mixed critical reception due to the immense complexity of its plot and the logistical challenges of coordinating a crossover across numerous disparate titles.
