Web of Spider-Man #14

Published in May 1986, Web of Spider-Man #14 was part of a secondary ongoing Spider-Man title designed to provide Marvel with additional space to explore the wall-crawler's extensive rogues' gallery and supporting cast. The issue was written by Danny Fingeroth, a long-time Marvel editor and writer who frequently shaped the tone of Spider-Man stories throughout the 1980s. This specific entry is notable for its artistic contribution from Jim Mooney, a veteran illustrator whose clean, classic style provided a sense of continuity that appealed to traditionalist readers during a period of transition for the character.

The story within this issue centers on a conflict involving the character Vulture, continuing the series' trend of refreshing classic villains for modern audiences. At the time, the Web of Spider-Man series was establishing its own identity separate from The Amazing Spider-Man and The Spectacular Spider-Man by focusing heavily on atmospheric urban storytelling. While it was not a tentpole event issue, it remains a characteristic example of the mid-80s creative philosophy at Marvel, where steady, character-driven narratives were prioritized to maintain high monthly readership.
