Web of Spider-Man #32

Published in September 1987, Web of Spider-Man #32 serves as the third chapter of the influential Kraven's Last Hunt storyline. This narrative arc, which spanned across Marvel's three main Spider-Man titles at the time, was conceived by writer J.M. DeMatteis and artist Mike Zeck to explore the darker, more psychological aspects of the superhero genre. The story focuses on Kraven the Hunter's obsession with proving his superiority over Spider-Man, leading to a grim and somber confrontation that challenged the conventional boundaries of mainstream comics in the late 1980s.

The creative direction for this issue was deeply rooted in a desire to shift Spider-Man from a traditional action-adventure hero into a more mature, introspective character. Mike Zeck’s grim, textured art style was pivotal in establishing the haunting atmosphere, particularly as the narrative deals with themes of mortality and existential despair. Upon its release, the storyline was lauded by critics and fans alike for its depth and thematic complexity, ultimately cementing its reputation as a seminal work in Spider-Man's history and a high point for the character during that era.
