Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man #14

Webspinners: Tales of Spider-Man was a limited series launched by Marvel Comics in 1999, designed to showcase different creative teams telling standalone or short-arc stories set during earlier points in the character's history. The title served as a nostalgic bridge, allowing writers and artists to revisit the classic Silver and Bronze Age aesthetics while maintaining a modern editorial framework. Issue 14 was published in 2000 as part of a two-part story arc titled 'The Invasion of the Spider-Slayers,' marking the final installment of the series.

This specific issue was written by Joe Kelly with art by Leo Fernandez, who aimed to evoke a grounded, tense atmosphere typical of the character's encounter with Alistair Smythe's robotics. The series was generally received as a thoughtful tribute to Spider-Man’s legacy, valued for its commitment to self-contained narratives that favored character development over the expansive, interconnected crossovers that dominated the industry at the time. By the time of this final issue, the book had firmly established itself as a niche favorite for readers seeking traditional, high-stakes storytelling.
