Will Eisner für Kenner #1

Will Eisner für Kenner was a specialized German anthology series released in the early 1990s, designed to introduce European readers to the profound narrative depth of Will Eisner’s career. The series focused on curating significant works from his legendary bibliography, particularly those that transitioned comic books from simple pulp entertainment into the medium of the graphic novel. It served as a testament to Eisner's enduring influence on sequential art, emphasizing his mastery of page composition and atmospheric storytelling.

The collection was curated for a sophisticated readership, as suggested by the German title meaning 'Will Eisner for Connoisseurs.' By highlighting Eisner’s signature focus on urban life, human pathos, and innovative panel layouts, the publication aimed to contextualize his work for an audience that viewed comics as a serious literary form. The design was minimalist and respectful, intended to let the weight of Eisner’s ink work stand on its own without unnecessary flourish, effectively bridging the gap between his classic American roots and the high-art sensibilities of the European comics market.
