Where it came from
Wolverine number 87 was published by Marvel Comics in November 1994, appearing during a transformative period for the X-Men franchise. This issue arrived in the wake of the 'Phalanx Covenant' crossover event and features Logan contending with the aftermath of losing his adamantium skeleton. It captures the gritty, experimental tone of mid-nineties storytelling, focusing on the character's struggle to adapt to his primal, vulnerable state.
The issue features cover art by Adam Kubert, a pivotal figure in the visual identity of Wolverine during the nineties. Kubert’s stylistic approach emphasized the raw, feral nature of the character, moving away from his traditional superhero aesthetic. Written by Larry Hama, a definitive voice for the character, the narrative was generally well-received by readers of the era for its commitment to the long-term character development of Logan following his departure from the Weapon X program.
