X-Factor #4

X-Factor #4, published in 1986, arrived during the formative era of the X-Factor series, which reunited the original five X-Men members under the guise of mutant hunters. Written by Bob Layton and illustrated by Jackson Guice, this issue fits into the series' early mandate to explore the complex, often paradoxical lives of the original team members as they navigated public scrutiny and personal conflict during a tumultuous time for mutantkind in the Marvel Universe.

The creative direction for this period of X-Factor focused heavily on the interplay between the team's public-facing persona and their private mission to aid mutants. Jackson Guice’s artwork during these early issues was instrumental in establishing the visual identity of the team's shift away from the traditional X-Men aesthetic. The issue was received as part of a significant relaunch for the founding members, marking a distinct departure from their historical roles in Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men, and remains a notable artifact of 1980s Marvel continuity.
