X-Force #101

X-Force number 101, published in April 2000, marked a significant pivot for the long-running series during the 'Revolution' event, a Marvel Comics initiative that saw writers and artists shuffle across various X-Men titles. This issue serves as a transition point, arriving after the team had undergone radical changes in tone and membership throughout the late nineties, shifting from the militaristic 'Rob Liefeld' era into a more character-driven focus.

The issue was written by Joe Pruett, with interior artwork by Jim Cheung, an artist whose clean, dynamic style helped define the look of modern Marvel books. Cheung’s work on this issue was intended to ground the increasingly surreal X-Force narrative, focusing on the internal dynamics of the group as they navigated the consequences of the High Evolutionary’s global experiments. While the series as a whole struggled to maintain the massive sales peaks of its inception, this issue remains a representative artifact of the turn-of-the-millennium creative shift in superhero comic production.
