X-Force #31

X-Force #31, released in early 1994, emerged during the height of the X-Men's immense popularity in the comic book industry. Part of a mid-90s era characterized by dynamic, often aggressive character redesigns and complex cross-overs, this issue is set during the aftermath of the Fatal Attractions storyline. It focuses on the evolving interpersonal dynamics of Cable's paramilitary mutant team, reflecting the darker, more militaristic tone that defined the X-Force series compared to the more traditional superhero narratives of the main X-Men titles.

The issue features cover art by Greg Capullo, whose distinct, muscular, and highly detailed aesthetic was a hallmark of the Image and late-90s Marvel style. Working under writer Fabian Nicieza, the creative team aimed to ground the team's shift toward a more proactive, sometimes vigilante-leaning posture. At the time of its release, the title was well-received by fans of the 90s speculator market who favored high-action sequences and the bold, kinetic character work that defined the era's visual identity.
