Where it came from
X-Man #35 was published in January 1998 as part of the ongoing Marvel Comics series following Nate Grey, an alternate-reality version of Cable brought to the main Marvel Universe. This issue arrived during a transitional period for the title, as creators worked to establish the character's identity outside the shadow of the Age of Apocalypse event from which he originated.
The issue features artwork by Roger Cruz and writing by Terry Kavanagh, who sought to blend high-stakes psychic action with the character's internal struggle for belonging. While the series was often noted for its complex, sometimes convoluted continuity, the design and aesthetic of the book remained firmly rooted in the high-energy, stylized visual language characteristic of late 1990s superhero comics.
