X-Men #182

Published in June 1984, X-Men #182 represents a significant chapter in the long-running Uncanny X-Men series under the creative direction of writer Chris Claremont and artist John Romita Jr. This issue is notable for its exploration of the aftermath of the 'Magik' limited series, focusing on the character Illyana Rasputin as she struggles with the corruption of her soul following her time in Limbo. The narrative serves as a bridge between high-stakes cosmic storytelling and the intimate, character-driven soap opera style that defined Claremont's legendary tenure on the title.

The visual storytelling in this issue highlights the collaborative chemistry between John Romita Jr. and inker Dan Green. Romita Jr.’s gritty, dynamic panel layouts provided a grounded aesthetic that complemented the darker, more psychological tone of the script. Upon release, the issue was well-received by fans of the era for its development of secondary cast members, further cementing the X-Men's reputation for complex character arcs that persisted long after the main action concluded.
