Provenance

Where it came from

X-Men '97: Season Two #1 serves as a bridge between the highly acclaimed animated revival series and its comic book expansion. Produced by Marvel Comics, this series is designed to further flesh out the narrative threads established in the Disney+ series, offering fans of the 1990s aesthetic a deeper exploration of the characters' psychological arcs and the sociopolitical challenges inherent in their world.

The creative direction of this issue maintains the visual and tonal DNA of the classic Chris Claremont and Jim Lee era, updated with a modern narrative pace. It focuses on the evolving leadership of Cyclops and the lingering impact of the Genosha incident, with the creative team aiming to replicate the nostalgic resonance that fueled the series' successful television reboot. It has been received as a foundational expansion of the current animated canon.
