X-Men Classic #107

X-Men Classic was an archival reprint series launched by Marvel Comics in 1986 to provide new readers access to the seminal 1970s run by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum. Issue number 107 reprints Uncanny X-Men #107, originally published in 1977, which captures a pivotal moment in the 'Phoenix Saga' as the team battles the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. The series was designed to maintain the integrity of the original stories while adding new cover art and supplemental material to provide historical context for the evolving X-Men mythos.

The cover art for the X-Men Classic run was notably produced by Ed Hannigan and Joe Rubinstein, who sought to update the aesthetic of the series while honoring the kinetic energy of the original Cockrum designs. By the time issue #107 was released in the late 1980s, the X-Men had become a cornerstone of the comic industry, and these reprints were well-received for bridging the gap between casual fans of the ongoing series and the complex, deep-space narrative foundation that defined the team's critical acclaim in the previous decade.
