Where it came from
X-Men Classic #78, published in 1992, serves as a reprint vehicle for material originally featured in the 1970s X-Men run. The Classic series was designed by Marvel Comics to introduce a new generation of readers to the foundational Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum stories that revitalized the franchise, often supplemented with new framing sequences, updated cover art, and editorial commentary that provided context for the evolving mutant mythos.
The cover art for this issue was produced by Mike Zeck, a highly regarded illustrator known for his dynamic work on The Punisher and Secret Wars. His contribution to the Classic series aimed to provide a modern, high-contrast aesthetic that honored the iconic status of the original characters while appealing to the distinct stylistic preferences of the early 1990s comic book market.
