X-Men Classic #86

X-Men Classic #86 was published in 1993 as part of Marvel Comics' long-running reprint series designed to introduce modern readers to seminal stories from the 1970s and 80s. This specific issue reproduces Uncanny X-Men #132, a pivotal chapter in the Dark Phoenix Saga, originally written by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. The series served as a bridge for a new generation of fans to experience the definitive creative run that transformed the X-Men from a struggling title into the industry juggernaut it became in the late 20th century.

The interior art remains true to the original 1980 visual aesthetic, showcasing the collaborative synergy between John Byrne's character layouts and Terry Austin's signature inks. The cover art for the Classic reprint features new material meant to evoke the high-stakes tension of the Hellfire Club arc. While the stories were already considered classics by the time this issue hit stands, the reprint series was received as a practical archival effort, allowing collectors to own these essential narrative milestones without the prohibitive cost or fragile condition of the original bronze-age printings.
