X-Men Unlimited #22

X-Men Unlimited #22 was published by Marvel Comics in March 1999 as part of a series designed to provide standalone stories outside the continuity-heavy main X-Men titles. This era of Marvel was characterized by a push for self-contained narratives that allowed creators to explore character development and thematic depth without the constraint of multi-issue crossovers. The issue served as a creative outlet for writers and artists to experiment with the franchise's vast roster of mutants.

The issue features a story written by Joe Kelly with art by Leo Fernandez, focusing on the character Deadpool. The design and narrative direction were intended to capture the character's burgeoning popularity at the time, blending dark humor with the erratic, fourth-wall-breaking style that would eventually define his modern persona. Upon release, it was well-received by fans of the era for its distinct tonal shift from the more serious tone of the core X-Men books, cementing its place as a notable entry for collectors interested in the evolution of anti-heroes within the X-Men mythos.
