X-Men Unlimited #28

X-Men Unlimited #28 was published in September 2000 as part of Marvel Comics' long-running anthology series, which provided a platform for standalone stories that often delved into character histories or side missions outside the main monthly titles. This particular issue serves as a focal point for the complex relationship between Nightcrawler and Mystique, continuing the tradition of the series exploring the personal lives of the X-Men's vast roster.

The issue features a creative team including writer Joe Pruett and artist Phil Jimenez. Jimenez, known for his polished, detailed linework, brought a specific stylistic approach that balanced the high-stakes action of the X-Men universe with the intimate, often strained emotional dynamics inherent to the mutant mythos. It was received as a typical entry in the late 90s/early 2000s Marvel era, contributing to the broader development of the characters during a time when the X-Men brand was undergoing significant creative transitions.
