X-Men Unlimited #45

X-Men Unlimited #45 was published by Marvel Comics in 2003, arriving during a period when the X-Men line was undergoing significant tonal shifts following Grant Morrison's tenure on New X-Men. As part of an anthology series intended to explore side stories and character depths outside the main monthly titles, this issue served as a narrative space to flesh out the evolving status quo of the mutant population.

The issue features work by writer Nunzio DeFilippis and Christina Weir, who were prominent architects of the New Mutants era during the early 2000s. The art style reflects the transition toward a more modern, streamlined aesthetic common in the post-millennial Marvel era, focusing on the interpersonal dynamics of a younger generation of students at the Xavier Institute. It was received as a bridge piece for readers deeply invested in the academy-focused storytelling that defined the franchise at the time.
