Where it came from
Released in 2002 as part of the X-Treme X-Men series, this issue serves as a pivotal installment in the 'City of Fire' story arc. Conceived by writer Chris Claremont and illustrated by Salvador Larroca, the series was launched to provide a more global, globetrotting perspective on the X-Men mythos, separating the core cast from the traditional Mansion-based narratives of the time.
The design of this issue reflects the distinct aesthetic of the early 2000s, characterized by Larroca’s clean, cinematic panel layouts and a focus on high-stakes character-driven drama. The story focuses on the team navigating political and supernatural turmoil in Valencia, Spain, illustrating Claremont’s ongoing commitment to developing the agency and interpersonal complexities of these established characters during his tenure.
