Where it came from
X-Treme X-Men #25 was published in June 2003 as part of the ongoing X-Men franchise expansion spearheaded by writer Chris Claremont. During this era, the series focused on a splinter group of mutants operating outside the traditional X-Men hierarchy, dealing with global crises and the fallout of earlier storylines like the Destiny Diaries. The title was characterized by Claremont's signature dense narrative style and a desire to explore the international scope of the mutant population.
The interior artwork for this issue was provided by Igor Kordey, whose distinct, gritty aesthetic often polarized readers during his tenure on various X-books. The issue continues the 'God Loves, Man Kills II' storyline, exploring themes of prejudice and moral complexity within the superhero genre. While X-Treme X-Men sought to offer a grittier alternative to the main-line X-Men titles, it remains a notable example of the experimental period in Marvel's early 2000s publication history.
