X-Treme X-Men #37

X-Treme X-Men #37 was released in January 2004 as part of the overarching X-Men publishing line during a transitional period for the franchise. Written by Chris Claremont with art by Igor Kordey, this issue continues the 'God Loves, Man Kills II' storyline, a thematic follow-up to the seminal 1982 graphic novel. The series was designed to explore a rogue team of mutants operating outside the traditional structures of the X-Men, focusing on global threats and the political repercussions of mutant existence.

The art in this period, particularly Kordey's contributions, was noted for its unconventional, gritty aesthetic which stood in contrast to the more polished, superhero-traditional house style prevalent in Marvel Comics at the time. While the creative direction sought to ground the X-Men in a more realistic and cinematic tone, the departure from standard visual expectations led to a polarized reception among contemporary readers. The title concluded shortly after this issue, eventually leading into broader restructuring across the X-Men line.
