Xenon #11

Xenon #11 is part of the original comic book series published by Heavy Metal during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Emerging from the counter-cultural landscape of speculative fiction and experimental graphic storytelling, the series was heavily influenced by the European anthology style established by Métal Hurlant. It served as a showcase for surreal, science-fiction-infused narratives that prioritized visual artistry and mature themes over traditional superhero tropes.

The series is noted for its collaborative approach to international talent, featuring a rotating roster of illustrators and writers who emphasized high-concept, atmospheric art. As with many publications of this era, the design philosophy focused on immersive world-building and psychedelic aesthetics, which resonated with a niche audience interested in underground comics. It remains a hallmark of the period's efforts to position comics as a sophisticated, avant-garde medium.
