Yokubare! Ningen-san #1

Yokubare! Ningen-san, authored by the manga artist Tsubaki, emerged during the late 1990s as a distinct entry in the genre of humorous, character-driven gag manga. The series was designed to satirize the social anxieties and consumerist habits of contemporary Japanese urban life, utilizing an episodic format that allowed for rapid-fire jokes focused on the titular character's insatiable and often absurd appetites.

The first volume serves as an introduction to the eccentric cast and Tsubaki's minimalist, expressive art style, which prioritized comedic timing over intricate background detail. Upon its initial serial release and subsequent tankobon compilation, the work was received as a niche but effective piece of light entertainment, appreciated by readers for its cynical humor and its sharp, sometimes surreal commentary on the expectations placed upon the modern individual.
