Yosemite Sam #18

Yosemite Sam #18 was published in 1974 by Gold Key Comics, a prominent division of Western Publishing that held the licensing rights to various Looney Tunes characters during the mid-twentieth century. This issue emerged during a period when Gold Key was actively expanding its roster of character-centric titles, aiming to capitalize on the enduring popularity of the Warner Bros. animated shorts by translating the fast-paced, slapstick energy of the cartoons into the serialized comic book format.

The creative direction for this series relied heavily on the established visual language developed by the Warner Bros. animation department, with artwork typically produced by house artists who focused on maintaining the iconic, curmudgeonly aesthetic of the character. While these issues were primarily designed as accessible, low-cost entertainment for younger readers, they are now regarded as representative artifacts of the Silver and Bronze Age of comics, reflecting the era's collaborative approach to licensed character development.
