Young Justice #13

Young Justice #13 was published in 1999 as part of the DC Comics line featuring a youthful incarnation of the Justice League. Conceived by writer Peter David and artist Todd Nauck, the series was characterized by a balance of humor, character-driven storytelling, and the unique camaraderie of teen heroes like Superboy, Robin, and Impulse. This issue falls within the period where the title was cementing its reputation for subverting standard superhero tropes while expanding the mythos of its lead characters.

The creative team aimed to portray the genuine frustrations and growth of teenage heroes navigating their complicated legacies and daily lives. Todd Nauck’s clean, expressive art style served to differentiate the book from the darker, grittier tones prevalent in other DC titles of the late nineties. The series was well-received by readers who appreciated the focus on ensemble chemistry and lighthearted adventuring, ultimately setting the stage for the later transition of these characters into the Teen Titans.
