Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games #9

Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games, known in its original Japanese as Ojou-sama wa Kakutou Game Nante Shinai, is a manga series written and illustrated by Jigou 6-sai. It began serialization in 2021 within the pages of Monthly Comic Alive, emerging during a period of renewed interest in niche, character-driven comedy series centered around gaming subcultures. The work explores the unlikely intersection of high-society etiquette and the gritty, competitive world of professional fighting games, subverting tropes surrounding traditional refined young women.

The narrative follows the protagonist, Aya, whose secret passion for intense gaming clashes with her elite school life, leading to humorous interactions with her rival, Shirayuri. Jigou 6-sai’s art style is characterized by sharp, expressive character designs that effectively convey the high-stakes tension of the arcade floor alongside the delicate aesthetics of the upper-class setting. The series has been received as a refreshing entry in the comedy genre, praised for its specific and surprisingly accurate depiction of the fighting game community's terminology and culture.
