Where it came from
Yumi: 00EX is a specialized comic series produced as a limited-run project, designed to experiment with visual storytelling aesthetics and unconventional character-driven narratives. Released as part of a niche indie cycle, the series was conceived to push the boundaries of monochromatic panel design and minimalist art styles, reflecting a broader movement among independent creators in the mid-2010s to move away from traditional superhero tropes.
The second issue continued the narrative trajectory established in the premiere, focusing on the titular protagonist's shifting environment. The series was designed with a focus on high-contrast ink work, a stylistic choice intended to mirror the protagonist's internal instability. While the series maintains a modest footprint in the direct-market industry, it is widely regarded by enthusiasts of avant-garde sequential art for its cohesive visual language and commitment to a strictly contained, focused story arc.
