Where it came from
The 1988 Zorro series, published by Marvel Comics under their Star Comics imprint, sought to revitalize the classic pulp hero for a younger audience during the late eighties. This particular issue, released in early 1988, continued the swashbuckling adventures of Don Diego de la Vega, balancing traditional swordplay with the visual storytelling tropes common to the era's children's comic market.
The creative direction for this series leaned into a simplified, accessible art style designed to bridge the gap between classic adventure serials and the contemporary tastes of the period. While the series did not achieve the longevity of the original Johnston McCulley stories or the iconic television adaptations, it stands as a focused experiment in adapting a legacy character for the comic book demographics of the late twentieth century.
