Burgeoning

The card Burgeoning was originally released in the 1998 Stronghold expansion for Magic: The Gathering, designed as a rare enchantment that allowed players to put lands onto the battlefield whenever an opponent played one. This mechanic was intended to provide a high-risk, high-reward strategy for ramp-focused decks, rewarding players who could maintain card advantage despite the potential for an empty hand. Its design remains a staple of competitive play, particularly in formats like Commander where the ability to accelerate land drops early in the game is highly sought after.

The Local Game Store (LGS) Promo version, numbered LGS071, is part of a series of promotional releases designed to incentivize local play and support community hubs. These reprints often feature updated art or unique frame treatments intended to distinguish them from their original printing while maintaining the identity established by the initial Stronghold iteration. The distribution of these promos through local brick-and-mortar stores highlights the importance of the physical play space in the game's ecosystem, serving as a token of appreciation for frequent participants in organized events.
