Where it came from
The Cracked Bauble, cataloged as LGS083 within the Local Game Store Promos set, emerged as part of a grassroots initiative designed to drive foot traffic to independent tabletop gaming retailers. These promotional resources were distributed through organized play events, serving as unique, alternate-art incentives that encouraged players to engage with their local communities rather than relying solely on online marketplaces.
The design of the Cracked Bauble leans into a minimalist, tactile aesthetic, intended to evoke a sense of salvaged utility. Illustrators for the Local Game Store series often favored weathered, high-contrast imagery to distinguish promo cards from the polished, vibrant look of standard expansion releases. While the card mechanics are straightforward, the series was well-received by collectors who valued the scarcity and the tangible connection it fostered between players and their local storefronts.
