Where it came from
The Not So Fast card was released as part of the High Seas set, an expansion that leaned heavily into maritime themes and high-stakes adventure mechanics. Designed for the game's competitive environment, this instant-speed spell was crafted to provide players with a reactive tool to disrupt opponents' momentum. It emerged during a period of the game's history where developers were experimenting with lower-mana-cost utility cards that could significantly shift the tempo of a match.
The illustrative work on the card reflects the aesthetic shift occurring within the High Seas set, focusing on dynamic action sequences and nautical iconography. The design team intended for the card to serve as a cornerstone for control-oriented strategies, emphasizing decision-making and precise timing. Upon its release, it was well-received by the player base for its versatility and its ability to act as a definitive answer to aggressive plays, securing its place as a staple within its rarity bracket.
