Where it came from
The Ray of Hope card, designated LGS044 within the Local Game Store promotional series, emerged as part of an initiative to incentivize physical play at independent retail locations. Released during a period when the game publisher sought to strengthen community ties, these promos were distributed as rewards for participation in local tournaments or events, ensuring that players had a tangible incentive to visit their neighborhood shops rather than relying solely on online retailers.
The design of the card emphasizes a thematic focus on recovery and resilience, consistent with the card type's instant-speed utility. While the specific illustrator is credited within the broader set's artistic guidelines, the piece is recognized for its warm color palette and evocative imagery, which served to distinguish it from standard core set printings. It was well-received by collectors who prioritize scarcity and exclusive art treatments, and it remains a subtle touchstone of the mid-2010s grassroots support strategy.
