Riptide

Riptide is a hero card featured in the Outsiders expansion for the Flesh and Blood trading card game, released by Legend Story Studios in 2023. This set focuses on the gritty, subterranean environment of the Pits, and Riptide was designed to represent the archetype of a lethal survivalist who utilizes traps and specialized equipment to control the battlefield. As a Ranger hero, the character design emphasizes tactical patience, rewarding players for setting up intricate defensive and offensive patterns rather than relying on direct aggression.

The character design team at Legend Story Studios sought to capture the aesthetic of an underworld mercenary, blending functional tactical gear with the dark, industrial atmosphere of the Pits. The illustration work was created to convey a sense of watchful isolation, consistent with the thematic world-building of Rathe. Upon its release, Riptide was received as a complex addition to the Ranger class, providing a distinct mechanical identity that shifted the focus of the class toward reactive play and damage-over-time interactions.
