Where it came from
The Zayu Pop! figure, numbered 83 within the Pop! NFL series, is a notable curiosity due to its incongruous categorization. Despite being labeled as part of the NFL line, the figure depicts a professional soccer player, reflecting the broader strategy of Funko to rapidly expand its sports licensing portfolio during the mid-2010s. This item emerged during a period of aggressive expansion for the Pop! brand, where design templates were often adapted across various athletic leagues, leading to occasional taxonomic errors in the official numbering and series titling.
The figure is part of the extensive FIFA-themed collection, capturing players in a stylized, minimalist aesthetic consistent with Funko's signature oversized-head design. While the NFL branding on the box remains an anomaly in the collector's market, the figure itself serves as an example of the company's focus on global sports icons. It was designed to appeal to both casual football fans and dedicated vinyl toy collectors, prioritizing recognizable jersey kits and player likenesses over intricate detail.
