Where it came from
Released in the early 1990s as part of the Playmobil stable and equestrian expansion range, the 3 Horses and Saddles set, identified as 5394-1, was designed to supplement the company's popular farm and riding school themes. Playmobil, founded by Hans Beck in 1974, focused its design philosophy on small-scale, versatile figures that encouraged open-ended play rather than rigid narrative structures, and these horses were crafted to be compatible with the standard 7.5cm figures developed for the system.
The set reflects the brand’s commitment to durable, modular plastic components that allowed children to customize their own equestrian displays. As with many accessories in the Playmobil line, the figures were intended to serve as background elements for more complex playsets, valued by collectors for their consistency in scale and aesthetic across decades of production.
