Where it came from
Released in the early 1970s, this component set was designed to support the burgeoning LEGO Technic and motorized model ecosystem. As the company expanded beyond simple brick-building into mechanical movement, they introduced the 4.5V basic motor system, which required specific gear and coupling interfaces to translate rotational energy into movement for wheeled vehicles.
The 4 wheel bushes were engineered as essential transition pieces, allowing the motor’s drive shafts to firmly grip standard wheels. Their design reflects the industrial, utilitarian aesthetic of the era’s LEGO components, prioritizing functional reliability and modularity within the 4.5V system rather than decorative flair. These parts became a staple for hobbyists looking to add propulsion to their custom automotive builds.
