5 Cyclists / Motorcyclists

Released in 1974, the 270-1 5 Cyclists/Motorcyclists set was part of the early Legoland era, appearing during a period when the company was expanding its scope of small-scale minifigure-compatible accessories. These figures were produced before the current standard of posable minifigures, representing the earlier 'brick-built' era where character representation was more abstract and relied heavily on standard plastic pieces and simple attachments to simulate human movement.

The design of these cyclists was intended to bring a sense of active life to the growing town-themed layouts that defined the era. By creating stylized figures that could be mounted onto wheels or handlebars, the designers aimed to introduce themes of sport and transit. While simple in their construction, they were well-received by early adopters for their utility in populating the streets of elaborate suburban displays, serving as an important transitional piece in the evolution of human figures in the system.
