Where it came from
The 5 Years in Japan Anniversary Minifigure, set number 5010487-1, was produced to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the LEGO Group’s formal market entry and corporate presence in Japan. Released in 2003, this promotional set was designed to serve as a celebratory gesture for employees and select partners, marking the milestones achieved by the company within the Japanese retail landscape during its initial half-decade of dedicated operations.
The minifigure design features a traditional Japanese aesthetic, characterized by a detailed printed torso depicting a formal kimono. The item reflects the LEGO Group’s tradition of creating regionalized, limited-distribution pieces to foster goodwill and acknowledge the cultural context of specific markets. As a niche promotional item intended primarily for internal distribution rather than mass retail, it is recognized by collectors as a rare piece of corporate history.
