Airport

Released in 2018 as part of the LEGO Duplo Town series, the Airport set (10871-1) was designed to introduce toddlers to the concepts of travel and aviation through play. The set reflects the broader Duplo design philosophy of using oversized, rounded bricks that are easy for small hands to grasp, prioritizing durability and safety for children aged two to five. By including a simple control tower, a slide, and a buildable airplane, the set encourages imaginative roleplay centered around the daily operations of a functional airport environment.

The aesthetic of this set follows the bright, primary-color palette characteristic of the late 2010s Duplo catalog, emphasizing high-contrast visuals to engage young children. Designers focused on modularity, ensuring the elements could be easily integrated with other sets in the Duplo Town theme to allow for expansive urban layouts. Upon its release, it was well-received by parents and educators as an accessible educational tool for teaching basic mechanics and narrative building, remaining a standard entry-level kit for early years construction play.
