Where it came from
The Angler Fish, released as set 40135-1 in 2015, was part of a seasonal promotional series offered through the LEGO brand retail stores and online shop. It served as a creative, miniature build intended to showcase the versatility of basic elements, moving away from licensed themes to focus on characterful, creature-based designs that appealed to builders who enjoyed small-scale display models.
The design utilizes a relatively modest piece count to capture the distinct silhouette of an angler fish, incorporating a characteristic 'lure' feature and an expressive, toothy maw. While not attributed to a single named designer, the set aligns with the internal aesthetic of the mid-2010s promotional items, which prioritized recognizable shapes and clever parts usage over complex engineering, resulting in a model that was well-received by fans for its whimsical charm and desk-ready size.
